WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the deadline for FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program gets closer, families are getting ready to make another move.

The program will end March 12.

The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is getting a head start. They will be helping move 10 families into new housing over the weekend.

Annie Anthony with the center says this is a big project and they will need as many volunteers as they can get.

“They just can think of it like their neighbors are in need and think about how they’d feel if they still weren’t back in their home,” Anthony said. “So knowing that they’re having to do yet another step before they get to go back home is very challenging.”

She expects them to continue moving families over the next few weeks.
